The Montauk Monster

Last week news sites and blogs were flooded with pictures from Montauk Beach in NYC showing a dead animal instantly nicknamed as the Montauk Monster.

Showing the features of a pig (wild boar, wild pig, etc are not discarded) all these web places are feeding our imagination with X-Files like hypothesis, typical of the Internet days.

Up to this point no serious statement nor report from authorities seem to have surfaced to bring clear light to this dead sea swine (even though most of the sites and news articles talk about silly things like dead sea turtle without the shell, an animal resulting from government experiment gone bad, and other not so smart conclusions).

Based solely on the available pictures, it is a pig or one of its cousins (why? pigs are the ones with the big canine teeth on the bottom of the jaws, US is facing a boom of the wild swine population, the skin and fur are typical, the legs, the tail, etc, etc.).

So don’t me excited, it was not this time yet that an animal from the Twilight Zone is passing from there to here.
