This is an artistic representation of the tropical forest in NE Colombia, 60 million years ago.
The spotted serpent is a 13 meters long “Titanoboa cerrejonensis”, more than twice the size of modern days Brazilian beauties Sucuri (Anaconda) and Jobóia.
Dr. Johathan Bloch recently led a team of international scientists to the caverns of Cerrejón in the northeastern Colombian jungles where they found the fossilized serpent among other vertebrate animals like crocodiles and giant tortoises.
Finding 55-65 million year vertebrate fossilized animals within the tropical forests of South America is not common at all. According to Dr. Bloch this discovery is a great opportunity to look into that past.
This is a comparison of an actual Sucuri vertebrae and the Tinatoba fossilized vertebrae.
A modern day giant is no comparison for the pre-historic monster.
